ABOUT US

Our Philosophy

Dara Meadows Farm was established in 1985 with the purchase of an Al Khamsa daughter of AK El Zahra Moniet in foal to Nabiel. In 1992 we purchased our original foundation straight Egyptian mare Zahara Kiyara and we have bred exclusively straight Egyptian horses from that time on. We breed first for extreme type and we are definitely headhunters! This does not mean that we have sacrificed conformation and correctness as we refuse to settle and we have had to be very selective in the horses we use. We also take our stewardship of these exceedingly rare creatures very seriously. Dara means "to tend and take care of" and preserving these living works of art is our highest calling.

Our Bloodlines

Stallions are generally the focal point of a farm's promotional efforts but we believe it will be the farm's mares that will secure its position in history. Great stallions will come from and be made by great mares. The weakest link at Dara will never be in the tail female which is generally where you find it. All of our mares are tail female to very significant mare lines. Our original foundation mare Zahara Kiyara (by Ansata Omar Halim) represents the family of US National Champion *Serenity Sonbolah who produced one of the world's most exotic mares in Kiyara's dam, SF Sonbolah Tu as well as Imperial Sonbesjul, dam of world class sire Imperial Al Kamar. Our next purchase was *Bint Bint Jamil (by Mohafez) with a female line to the Queen of the Nile, Moniet El Nefous, a mare of unparalleled international significance and an especially strong source of stallion producing females. Our most recent purchase is the Dahmah mare HMT  Sylvanna (by The Minstril) who represents the family of Farida through the exquisite *Ghazalahh. We are concerned with the tail females of the stallions we use as well and in tail female Akid Geshan (by Nabiel) traces through a line of phenomenal broodmares to the "mare of transcending beauty" and the jewel of Prince Mohamed Ali, Mahroussa. His dam's sire is also tail female to Mahroussa, a doubling of the dam line that is a recipe for consistency. It is interesting to note that all Geshan's Babson tail female ancestors trace to daughters of premier broodmare sire Fay El Dine. Nabiel's dam is the grand matriarch *Magidaa, who also produced the exceptional Bint Magidaa who in turn produced Ruminaja Ali, Ruminaja Bahjat, Alidaar and Thee Infidel, all of whom are represented in our breeding program.

Our Event

The Egyptian Event in June is the only American show we are concerned with showing at and we use it to test our young stock. We feel it is the toughest, most competitive of all shows as no where else are American horses ajudicated to such exacting standards by judges from all over the globe. In the past five years five horses bred by Dara have been shown at the Event. Between them, they have garnered several top tens, a reserve World Class win, two reserve Futurity wins, two World Class championships, a Senior Championship and a Supreme Championship. At the 2008 Egyptian Event the unanimous Supreme Champion Stallion, Arabest Samir was a son of Akid Geshan adding to *Bint Bint Jamil's production of the 2004 unanimous Supreme Champion Stallion, Pimlico RCA. We are very proud to say we now have a sire and a dam of two Supreme Champion Stallions here on the farm. Another highpoint of the Event for us was the 2008 presentation of the Al Gohara award to Sarah Burns and Shalinay Nile DMF (Pimlico RCA x Kiyaras Nile Star) proving we breed not only beautiful and charismatic halter horses but functional, sound and good-minded performance horses that bond with their riders as only Arabians can.

Our Invitation

If you desire Arabians of extreme type and presence, excellent conformation, superb pedigree and loving dispositions you may wish to contact us for availability. We do not breed for size or color and have no interest in producing a Half-Arab/Saddlebred look. We wish to produce horses that faithfully resemble the beautiful works of art past and present that represent an Arabian horse of the desert - dry, elegant, balanced and refined with a beautiful exotic head, arched neck, relatively level topline, gaily carried tail, extravagant motion, straight legs and strong hooves. You are enthusiastically invited to join us!
